Hi Beauty Babes,

Here is one of the many beautiful brides I got to work on this summer. Mr. and Mrs. Aldrete wed on the Fourth of July at The Castaway. I had my own wedding reception at this amazing venue just last year so I was super excited to hear they would be having their ceremony and reception there!

Sandy wanted a dramatic smoky eye (I LOVE when brides go smoky!) so I started off with her eyes first to avoid eyeshadow fall out.

Check out this amazing shot of their wedding rings on the heel of her Louboutin! #sexy

Here’s our smoky eyed beautiful brideDEM_6766

Castaway has a stunning gazebo that served as the center of the ceremony.

Sandy is a “bling-loving” bride, as you can tell from her sparkling dress, bejeweled bracelet and radiant roses.DEM_6828

I love this picture of them. I’m also obsessed with those floating flower balls as aisle decorations- total showstoppers!DSC_2447

…and they literally had fireworks on their wedding day. Congratulations Oscar and Sandy! You two make a beautiful couple. Thanks for letting me be a part of your special day 🙂

This past summer, I worked on an outdoor, vintage-themed wedding for Thomas and Stephanie Holland. After seeing how lovely it turned out, I just had to share their photos with my readers!

Wedding 1

Stephanie was the epitome of vintage 40’s. She did a half-up half-down hair do with victory rolls and sweet swirls. We decided to skip the 40’s red lip to give her fiance a break when it was time to “kiss the bride” and played up her deep dark peepers instead. I also gave her that dewy J.Lo glow by highlighting the center of her face and cheekbones with a Mineralized Skin Finish by MAC Cosmetics.

Waterproof mascara all the way for my brides!

Stephanie’s lovely bridesmaids kept in the vintage theme with white cocktail dresses that plumed out just below their knees. Each girl wore different colored heels in bright tones for a modern twist.7

The boys wore khaki pants (smart choice for hot summer days!) and Converse kicks.Wedding7

Look at these cuties!Wedding4

Thomas is half-Armenian, and to honor that, he and Stephanie included an Armenian “Crowning of the Bride and Groom” as part of their ceremony, complete with the armband ties of eternity.Wedding5

With the help of wedding coordinator extraordinaire Debra Meadows of Purple Meadows Events, the cocktail and reception hours included rustic decor and hints of orange. It brought out the nature-quality of the location, which was Middle Ranch. See, you can find beautiful outdoor places near Los Angeles!

How stunning is this shot with their rings?!

As it got darker, the twinkly lights came out.wedding8

The bride and groom did a small cake for themselves topped with a Mickey & Minnie Mouse (the love Disney) and offered cupcakes to their guests, which let’s face it, are more fun to eat than cake slices. wedding10

A big congratulations goes out to Thomas and Stephanie! You guys made a beautiful couple. XOXO

Happy Wedding Wednesday, beauties! This past week, I perused the internet looking for famous brides to pin to my Pinterest board, and wanted to share some of my favorites with you. Whether you are newly engaged or daydreaming for the future, here are some bridal beauty looks you can consider.

This is the only “color” photo of Grace Kelly that I could find, but even through the grainy, vintage camera lens and her veil, you can see her flawless porcelain skin and berry-stained lips. Her makeup is minimal and her brows are natural and full. This is a gorgeous look to balance out an over-the-top royal style wedding gown.  Complete your look with a lip stain like Hourglass’s Aura Sheer Lip Stain.

Grace Kelly

Princess Diana is another perfect example of a Fresh-Faced Bride. Her blue eyes were softly lined with brown and her skin is showing through the makeup.Diana

For those of you wanting a little more than the Fresh-Faced look, Naturally-Glowing is your next step. The makeup is all kept in neutral tones ranging from peach to brown with a soft, almost clear, glossy pout. Another signature for this look is the highlight on the tops of the cheekbones. Ivanka Trump went with a high-sheen liquid shimmer like Benefit’s High Beam, most likely applied heavily using a brush.

Bella Swan (Kristin Stewart’s Twilight character) has the same ethereal glow but kept it softer-focused by using a pressed shimmer powder like Candlelight by Too Faced. Bella Swan

This is the look I chose for my own big day. Smoky eyes are a great choice for evening and/or formal weddings. They stand up to photo lighting and give your face extra dimension. Carrie Underwood chose do to a smoky eye with purples, which really popped against her hazel-green eyes. Topped with black liner and lashes, this is the look for a bride with personality.

Tia Mowry also went smoky, but wisely chose to do gray instead of black. The grey really accentuates her beautiful dark eyes. Take note that both Carrie and Tia kept their lips a nude-pink to balance out their dramatic eye shadows.

This is for the bold, modern bride who wants an edgy, yet timeless look. Here are two very different examples. Elizabeth Taylor wore red lips on (one of?) her big days decades ago. If you take away the hair and dress, her makeup stands the test of time. The classic red lip never goes out of style!

Elizabeth Taylor

Just ask Gwen Stefani. She doesn’t go out the front door without her signature red pout, now that’s commitment! If you do choose to go with the red lips for your big day, you must go with a waterproof, kiss-proof, non-smudgable product like Lime Crime’s Velvetine or Makeup For Ever’s Aqua Rouge.

Which one of these Celebrity Bride categories do you fall under?

Hello pretty ladies!

This past weekend I hosted a booth for the first time at the ever-upscale I Do! Bridal Event given by Fancy That Events at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, Calif. It was such a cool experience! With my trusty PR guru and dear friend Jennifer Castaneda by my side, we met bubbly glowing brides and their friends and family members.

Being a recent bride myself, I was “tricked” many times by booth giveaways that were actually ploys. I’d get phone calls saying that I won a giveaway, and to claim my prize I’d have to sit through a sales pitch, or I’d have to pay for a service first. It just felt so insincere and was such a waste of my time. Brides have enough going on planning their weddings, they don’t have time to be harassed! That’s why for the brides at this event, I decided to create a giveaway that had no strings attached. It was very simple: people put their names and contact info in the box. I had Jen pick out a name. I called them. They won. I sent them the prizes. Done. Booth photo 4

I hand-picked everything based on what a bride would need for her big day. The products I use for my makeup kit are from professional brands, but I wanted to keep things simple and user-friendly so I stuck with drug store finds. I have tried and reviewed almost every drugstore brand product on the market, and these are the ones that I found worked well, if not better, than ones from professional brands. Here’s what the giveaway included:

L’oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Waterproof Mascara – I actually have this in my kit and use it exclusively on brides. It’s a great waterproof mascara because it doesn’t budge. No flaking, no clumping. You do however, need makeup wipes to remove it at the end of the night: this stuff is legit!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream: Three words: I. Love. These. It goes on with a doe foot applicator, just like lip gloss, but it dries down to a creamy matte. It’s long-wearing and doesn’t dry out your lips as much as other long-wearing lip products do.

Zon Cosmedix 24 7 Oil Control Blotting Tissues  These are a bride’s best friend! Nothing is worse than piling on powder throughout your reception. These little babies will remove extra oils from your skin (T-Zone neutralizer, much?) in a flash. Just throw them in your bridal clutch and touch up ONCE during the reception. Done.

Ardell Natural Lashes in Beauties Ardell is the leading false eyelash company for a reason. The lash strips are flexible so they adhere to your eye shape, and they come in a million different sizes for a good price. I can use my Ardells about 4 or 5 times before I throw them out!

Tarte Travel Size Eye & Skin Primers and Moisturizer Tarte has amazing all natural skin products. This isn’t a drug store brand, but I wanted to include this travel size trio so the bride could take it along on her honeymoon.

Maybelline Baby Lips With SPF 20 These puppies are getting rave reviews from everyone in the industry. I would consider these to be an affordable version of Fresh’s Sugar lip balms. I’d rather pay $2.97 over $22 any day! Wear these alone or under lipsticks for extra hydration.

Pond’s Makeup Wipes: You can’t see them in the photo but they are behind all the other makeup. These are the drugstore dupes for MAC’s makeup wipes. I actually used these for my own wedding and they worked just as well. Super gentle on your skin, too! My favorite way to use them is to use one wipe for both eyes, another for your face, then rinse your skin with warm water and face soap. The wipes will break down the makeup and the soap will cleanse your pores.

…and I threw in a cute pair of bridal earring studs to seal the deal.

There were almost 100 entries submitted for this giveaway during the four hour show and I just shipped it off to the lucky bride today. Would you guys like to see another bridal giveaway on my blog or Youtube channel? Let me know in the comments below.

Next up– the makeup!
My fabulous photographer Rustin Michael took some great getting ready shots of me that I’ll share below. For my own makeup, I used Dinair’s airbrush foundation, blush and highlighter. I wish I could use airbrush foundation everyday, but I’m too lazy to clean out the gun every morning (you can’t leave product in the airbrush gun because it will damage the whole machine- talk about high maintenance). Airbrush makeup is fantastic for brides because it stays on, and floats right about your skin, as opposed to sinking into your pores, giving you a smooth glow. There is a small amount of alcohol in the foundation, which helps to dry down very quickly and stay ON like nobody’s business.
Here I’m applying a small amount of MAC’s Reflects Pearl glitter on the inner corners of my eyes, because let’s face, everyone knew I would rock glitter on my wedding day.

Here is the finished product, complete with a combination of MAC and Urban Decay eyeshadows and Ardell lashes. I kept the lips neutral so poor Dylan wouldn’t be smeared with bright lipstick all day. I’ll have a video tutorial of this look as soon as the weather cools down and my studio isn’t a hot box!

Here’s the Mother of the Bride, in all her glory. I definitely get my makeup skills from my mom. She has always been skilled with the makeup brush. I remember watching her do her makeup as a kid in the 80’s, I just couldn’t wait to grow up and do winged out blue eye liner and hot pink angled blush like she did. Mom did her own makeup that day, I helped her a little with the eyeshadow and lash application.
Yep, that’s the ring boy in the corner
Here is my bridesmaid Angelica representing all the girls’ makeup. Allyson Stagg of The Las Vegas Style Sirens (and of being my best friend) did my girls’ makeup. Knowing my love for dramatic eye makeup, she created this jaw-dropping teal and champagne smoky eye topped with MAC’s Reflects Teal glitter and whipped them up for each girl within three hours. I couldn’t believe how sexy and bold my bridesmaids looked! As if you guys don’t know already, I’m not really a fan of the “natural look.” I LIVE for jewel tones and sex-pot makeup, and that’s exactly what Allyson delivered. All of my girls looked like Playboy models, and I’m pretty sure their boyfriends/husbands didn’t mind at all. 😉

Cappy and his Godmother
I wish I had photos of all the girls, we are still in the process of editing. I’ll go back and update this blog once the photos are ready 🙂

I’m here with my first bride of 2012, Mrs. Lisa Gonzalez. Lisa and her husband Dan tied the knot on April 14th and man, did Lisa looks stunning! Lisa has great skin and big beautiful hazel eyes so I was pretty excited to work with her- a makeup artist’s dream!
I love working with brides because each and every one has such different taste, and it gives me a chance to do all kinds of fun makeup. Lisa is pretty low maintenance on the daily with her makeup, and she wanted her natural beauty to shine on the big day.

I did a light dusting of airbrush foundation and used soft shades of peach for her cheeks and lips. I kept the eye shadows to a minimum on the eyes and brought out those hazel ojos with a sweep of black eyeliner, mascara and some very natural false eye lashes. Even if you have long lashes, falsies really bring out your eyes, especially in photos. I recommend them for every bride!

Here’s Flower Girl Sam helping Lisa with her earrings. So cute!
What an angel

Congrats Mr. & Mrs. Dan Gonzalez!
