Summer Nail Art Recap

Happy September Beauties,

This has been a fun and busy summer for me. I had a ton of weddings and freelance clients on top of working on-call with MAC. And in between all that, we had a few small trips to Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Dana Point and Temecula. I still managed to keep up with my nail art obsession and wanted to show you some of my favorites. Here are my “Best of the summer” nails:

Black & White Stripes

Stripes were a huge in fashion this summer, showing up on everyone’s dresses, shirts and shoes. I decided to bring the trend right onto my lil’ ol’ nail beds. This is a very simple design. Go with an opaque white like Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in White On. I L-O-V-E this formula! Super thick so you only need one or two coats (yes, even with white) and it wears way longer. One week later and still no chipping at the top of the nails. Use a black striper to create the lines. Top with a quick-drying top coat. Voila!

Peaches, Cream and Glitter

For this peachy look, I used MAC’s Life After Beth Nail Lacquer then used a white striper for the lines and the chevron design. I used a gold glitter that had big and small pieces for the other nails.

Nude Nails

I know this isn’t exactly nail art, but when Sheswai sent me this color, I fell in love. This is literally the only color I will wear without nail art because it’s just so lovely on its own. The formaldehyde-free formula is also cruelty-free and super opaque. Love it too? It’s called For Real and you can purchase it HERE. It’s so long-wearing, you’ll think it’s gel!

Neon Aztec Nail Art

You’ll notice that as the summer wore on I went more and more oval/stiletto with my nail shape. It just looks so feminine and sexy. I officially refuse to go back to the “squovals” I rocked for the last 10 years. No one wants square shaped nails anymore! It’s all about elongating your fingers and hands.

This was my favorite of the whole season. I used China Glaze’s Shocking Pink polish, which is one of the only polishes I’ve used and loved so much that I ran out and bought another. The Aztec design was created using Sally Hansen’s Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in White On then applying a black striper for the lines. I chose to only do two nails in the Aztec design because let’s face it- ain’t nobody have time for a full set.

Which one was your favorite? Would you try any of these?

Spring Nail Art – WITH PHOTOS

Missed my nails? Well here’s a recap of all the nail art I’ve been sporting in the new year. Before we start I just want to clarify that I am NOT a professional manicurist, I am simply a nail art enthusiast and trust me, my designs are all kinds of wobbly and imperfect. But who cares? They’re just nails. Anyway, let’s dig in!

You will notice that lately I’ve been obsessed with Essie’s Minted Candy Apple shade. It’s slightly brighter than last year’s seafoam-green trend and it just makes me happy. The cool pastel will brighten up your finger tips while still being “office-friendly.” Here I paired it with Essie’s Chinchilly and a silver metallic shade to bring you an argyle print.

I followed up with a simple and easy polka-dot design. Paint your nails two coats of your favorite mint shade, then spot on silver polka-dots with the end of a bobby pin. InstaCUTE!

Here I tried it with Loreal’s Nail Lingerie on top. I loved the way this turned out! If you missed my last post, click HERE to watch my review of the Colour Riche Nail Lingerie.IMG_2622

I took a break from the mint and stepped into the Pantone Color of The Year, Emerald. I went with Revlon’s lovely shade called Posh and threw in some black and white dots and stripes for fun.IMG_2699

Looks like I missed that Minted Candy Apple again. To “spring” it up, I threw on some black and white daisies over (gasp!) clear, bald nails.IMG_2843

Here’s what I’m currently wearing, and what I’m most proud of. I can’t begin to describe my love for the black and white trend we are seeing on the runways for Spring. Everyone looks good in this combo! It translates beautifully into nail art. I did daisies on the thumb, Beetlejuice-esque stripes, reverse polka-dots, white lace and a stamp-on graffiti design. Hope you enjoyed this peek into my nail-art life! Which design will you try?
