My Night Time Skin Routine

IMG_4975

Hi Beauties,

I spent yesterday’s gloomy Sunday afternoon uploading and editing my latest for Youtube: my nightly skin care routine. I’ve done dozens of makeup tutorials, but I’ve never showed you how to properly remove everything. WARNING: You will be exposed to my bald, makeup-free face! Ha ha ha.

Below is a list of my go-to products that I use in the video.

Towel: for steaming up your face before washing

Boscia Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel- This takes the place of your regular face soap. It doesn’t lather up too much, so it takes some getting used to but it does a great job of cleansing the skin without stripping it dry.

Boscia Cleansing Sponge w/ Bamboo Charcoal — You can also substitute this with cheaper dupes found on Amazon!

La Fresh Waterproof Makeup Remover Wipes: These are great on the go or if you are short on time. They are oil-based wipes that will break down all your makeup, including waterproof and smudge proof cosmetics. Some nights I will use one of these before I jump in the shower. I use the Boscia face wash products while I’m in the shower to help open my pores from the steam. These wipes are often on sale on Hautelook, so keep an eye out!

MAC Pro Eye Makeup Remover: The purple bottle is a super soothing formula made with cucumber to help de-puff and soothe skin after a long day of wearing drag queen-worthy makeup. Super gentle and great for sensitive eyes as well.

MAC Cleanse-Off Oil: I use a few drops of this on a cotton ball to start off my nightly routine. I prefer this method to the wipes because of how quickly the makeup breaks down but it is more time-consuming.

Have you tried any of my techniques? What about going forward? Which product are you down to try? Let me know in the comments below!

New Beauty Products to Try for Summer 2014

Hello Summer Sunshines!

Today I’m bringing you six all-new products that I’m super stoked about using this summer. Thanks to my recent birthday, I had a plethora of Sephora gift cards to splurge on and here’s what I got, and give the Lady C seal of approval on:

BITE BEAUTY AGAVE LIP MASK: $26

Bite’s lip mask caught my eye because it was made to apply before drying, matte lipsticks to shield your pucker from flaking. Matte lipsticks are all the rage and have proved they are here to stay, so you might as well pick up one of these to prep your lips before application. If there’s one thing I hate more than Birkenstocks, it’s the feeling of dry, cracked lips. A small amount soaks right in without budging or ruining the look of matte lipstick, a generous amount gives you a beautiful shine and feels divine. I’ve been using it at night prior to bed as a healing treatment, then applying before any lipstick in the morning. Have I mentioned the yummy factor? The all-natural formula is made with agave, vanilla and more antioxidants than a glass of wine. Even hubby steals it once in a while. Don’t tell him I told you.

BOSCIA KONJAC CLEANSING SPONGE WITH BAMBOO CHARCOAL: $18

This is the type of product that needs to be demonstrated to show its full potential, which is exactly the reason I ended up buying it. Michele from Boscia (pronounced Bosh-ah, for those of us who have been calling it Boss-kee-ah) peaked my interest by luring me in to try the sponge in action on my hand. I walked over to the bowl of warm water where this little black sponge was floating, and she rubbed the little guy all over the back of my hand for about 5 seconds. I kid you not, five seconds later the back of my right hand was significantly brighter and more glow-ey than my left and felt as smooth as those Tiger’s Eye rocks I used to collect as a kid.

This pore-perfecting pillow-soft Konjac Cleansing Sponge is infused with Bamboo Charcoal for clean, smooth skin. Use it with face wash to rub all traces of non-waterproof makeup off and brighten and tone skin on your under-eye area, face and neck. The black sponge is for oilier skin and there is a white option for dryer, more sensitive skins.

I. Am. Obsessed. I use it every night in the shower with my new face wash to remove my makeup and clear up my skin. It’s soft, luxurious, and a whole new way to enjoy the tedious task of cleaning your face. My pores are cleaner and the occasional pimple is now less prevalent. Out of all the new things I’m showing you today, I feel like this is the one you absolutely MUST get.

Because it is made of organic material, you should replace the sponge every 2-3 months.

BOSCIA TSUBAKI CLEANSING OIL-GEL: $28

Cleansing oils are the newest trend in skincare, but it’s not for everyone. If you want to dip your toe into the world of cleansing oils without risking a breakout, Boscia’s Tsubaki Cleansing Oil-Gel is a great place to start. The slippery gel texture feels like a face wash, but has minimal suds and all the effects of a cleansing oil without the greasy mess.

It’s a lightweight botanical blend of tsubaki oil (camellia oil), wakame (Japanese sea kelp), and rice bran oil that hydrates, smooths, and protects for the appearance of firm, youthful skin while also removing the daily dirt.

It smells like a Japanese garden! It’s on the pricier side, but it does go a long way. I use one pump on my Konjac sponge and it does the job.

BosciaGel

Bumble & Bumble Pret-A-Powder: $26

This isn’t just your run-of-the-mill dry shampoo. It also volumizes your hair and extends your style. My hair has been living in various fishtail and french braids this spring and nothing keeps it more together than this stuff. I sprinkle a little in my hands, rub them together and smooth over my strands before securing into a “messy” braid. I also use it to fix my stubborn, growing-out side bangs. It’s fantastic! Works well for all lengths of hair.

BB

BENEFIT’S THE BIG EASY LIQUID-TO-POWDER SPF 35: $38

This is Benefit’s answer to BB cream, and what made me want to try it is that it goes from liquid to powder, which my oily skin desperately needs. I love BB creams in the colder months, but I find them to be too greasy in the summer season. The Big Easy has a medium coverage, which is fantastic for every day use, with a high dose of SPF 35 to protect your skin from aging. The foundation self-adjusts to your exact shade to even out skin tone and conceal imperfections! I wear the Medium shade and most days, I don’t even use a powder to set it.

TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA: $23

Based on the name, this mascara had some big shoes to fill. Better than sex? While I beg to differ, I will say that I do love this mascara. Those of you who read my blog on the regular know I was a huge fan of Revlon’s Grow-Luscious line of mascaras. Sadly, I stopped purchasing after I discovered that Revlon is not cruelty-free. In my hunt for cruelty-free, I came across Too Faced’s line of peeper-inhancers and found this gem. It is an intensely black, volumizing mascara with an hourglass-shaped brush that separates, coats, and curls each lash to voluptuous perfection. My lashes look like they are flying off the shelves when I wear this. Go out and get yours! It’s worth the $23.

A new year means it’s January- just a week after you got a ton of gift cards to your favorite beauty destinations for the holidays. Don’t worry, I already did the research for you and rounded up a bunch of items that you should try next. Ladies–whip out your Christmas gift cards because it’s about to go down:

Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder For Face and Body :$29

This silky smooth powder has a micro fine finish and comes with a moon-shaped brush for easy application on not only your cheekbones, but your shoulders, collarbone, and other high points of your body. This shade looks beautiful on every skin tone and is a fantastic addition to anything you may already have from Urban Decay’s coveted Naked line.

Lorac Pro Set: $42

Oh how I love a good eyeshadow palette! What makes this one stand out from all the other palettes available is that there are eight matte shadows, and eight shimmer shadows, giving you endless combinations. If you’re an avid reader, you are familiar with me whining about the lack of matte eyeshadows in the world’s palettes, so the fact that this has eight is a Christmas miracle. It’s so beautiful! Created by makeup artist Carol Shaw, this is a great palette for beginners too.

Ciate Caviar Rose Gold: $19

Rumor has it my mom-in-law and sister-in-law fought over who got to get this for me for Christmas this year. I shrieked in delight when I opened this last week. Nail art beads in…ROSE GOLD?! Ever since my husband proposed to me with a rose gold ring, I’ve been obsessed with collecting everything rose gold.

The trick to making the beads stay on is dousing every centimeter of your nail in top coat after applying them. I have no idea why the instructions in the box tell you to avoid applying anything on top, because if you don’t, the beads will fall off faster than Miley Cyrus’s bra in her next Instagram post.

Boscia Luminating Black Mask : $34

This paraben-free peel off mask is A) fun to look at and B) actually lifts dead skin cells and unblocks your pores with its mineral-rich formula. I’ve been dying to smear my face is this volcanic, lava-like glue since it came out and I’m happy to say it was worth the wait. If this mask seems a little expensive to you, try the travel-size version, available in the waiting line at your nearest Sephora. By the way, does anyone else get in and out of line because you get sidetracked looking at all the tiny goodies on the way to pay for your own stuff? I lose my place in line at least three times at each visit.

Ripe Shop Lip Balms: $4

I’ve been a huge fan of these babies for a while now. Handmade with all-natural ingredients, the Ripe Shop’s lip balms are ridiculously cheap and heavenly on your soup coolers. I’m drooling just looking at these flavors. I gifted these to my coworkers, in case you thought I was a hoarder.
