Happy Wedding Wednesday, beauties! This past week, I perused the internet looking for famous brides to pin to my Pinterest board, and wanted to share some of my favorites with you. Whether you are newly engaged or daydreaming for the future, here are some bridal beauty looks you can consider.
THE FRESH-FACED BRIDE
This is the only “color” photo of Grace Kelly that I could find, but even through the grainy, vintage camera lens and her veil, you can see her flawless porcelain skin and berry-stained lips. Her makeup is minimal and her brows are natural and full. This is a gorgeous look to balance out an over-the-top royal style wedding gown. Complete your look with a lip stain like Hourglass’s Aura Sheer Lip Stain.
THE NATURALLY-GLOWING BRIDE
For those of you wanting a little more than the Fresh-Faced look, Naturally-Glowing is your next step. The makeup is all kept in neutral tones ranging from peach to brown with a soft, almost clear, glossy pout. Another signature for this look is the highlight on the tops of the cheekbones. Ivanka Trump went with a high-sheen liquid shimmer like Benefit’s High Beam, most likely applied heavily using a brush.
Bella Swan (Kristin Stewart’s Twilight character) has the same ethereal glow but kept it softer-focused by using a pressed shimmer powder like Candlelight by Too Faced.
THE SMOKY EYES BRIDE
This is the look I chose for my own big day. Smoky eyes are a great choice for evening and/or formal weddings. They stand up to photo lighting and give your face extra dimension. Carrie Underwood chose do to a smoky eye with purples, which really popped against her hazel-green eyes. Topped with black liner and lashes, this is the look for a bride with personality.
Tia Mowry also went smoky, but wisely chose to do gray instead of black. The grey really accentuates her beautiful dark eyes. Take note that both Carrie and Tia kept their lips a nude-pink to balance out their dramatic eye shadows.
THE RED LIPS BRIDE
This is for the bold, modern bride who wants an edgy, yet timeless look. Here are two very different examples. Elizabeth Taylor wore red lips on (one of?) her big days decades ago. If you take away the hair and dress, her makeup stands the test of time. The classic red lip never goes out of style!
Just ask Gwen Stefani. She doesn’t go out the front door without her signature red pout, now that’s commitment! If you do choose to go with the red lips for your big day, you must go with a waterproof, kiss-proof, non-smudgable product like Lime Crime’s Velvetine or Makeup For Ever’s Aqua Rouge.
Which one of these Celebrity Bride categories do you fall under?
I don’t know how I feel about the SAG Awards. It seems like they weren’t significant until recently, and even then, it seems excessive. Aren’t the Golden Globes and Oscars enough? Regardless, the ladies on the red carpet really brought their A game. Here are my best and worst beauty look picks from the evening:
I love the silvery plum smoky eye paired with those frosty sherbert pink lips. She is an amazing beauty without makeup, so with makeup, she knocks it out of the park. How fierce are her cheekbones?
Kelly is very particular about her look and it shows. I really adore this lilac shade she’s been rocking, it goes so beautifully with her eyes and skin that I often forget it’s a “crazy color.” I can always appreciate the attention to detail in her makeup- her black eyeliner cat eye is always flawless and her brows are always done. This bright red lip is a lovely pop of color against her pale skin. It reminds me of Lime Crime’s Velvetine lip color in Red Velvet. Who knows, maybe that’s what she’s wearing?
I literally don’t even know who this girl is, but she is so striking! I love dark brows on porcelain skin. Her makeup is actually very natural other than the black smoke on her eyelids. Who ever did her makeup kept it close to her eyelids and didn’t blend too far up into the crease–that’s the trick to making smoky eyes look “natural.” A couple of coats of mascara really sealed the deal on this beauty look.
Ready? Here comes the WORST
One of my biggest pet peeves is when an already youthful and beautiful woman goes overboard with the Botox. There really isn’t anything wrong with her makeup per se, but I don’t even notice it because I’m too distracted by the puffy and shiny patches all over her skin, which happens when there is too much fluid underneath the skin’s surface and it’s being stretched against its will. Doesn’t that look like it hurts?
I almost did a double take: Nancy O’Dell has turned into Nicole Kidman’s twin. Please stop the madness, Nancy! Don’t ruin your pretty face!
I feel like people get thrown off when styling Julianne Moore because she’s a red head. They do a great job on her hair then leave everything on her face, including her eyebrows and apparently also her lips, undone. She NEEDS her eyebrows filled in with a very light, strawberry blonde eyeshadow and an angle brush. She needs some kind of dewy glow to really showcase the beautiful cheek bones she has. Her lips are chapped and look painful. Come on guys…she doesn’t deserve this.
Why does this keep happening to her?! Is it because she’s a new mom who doesn’t have time to sit in the makeup chair long enough? Claire has a hooded eye shape, where the crease loosely hangs over the eyelid. Frosty eyeshadow is the last thing that should be applied to an overly hooded eye! She should have stuck to mattes on the eye, with just a pop of shimmer in the inner corners. That lip needs to be cleaned up. It’s smearing on one side (top right) and it’s too brown for her pale skin. I get that they were going for the “Oxblood” lip look but she really should have gone for one with a more burgundy undertone.
That’s a wrap! Which one of these looks would you like to see in a tutorial? Let me know in the comments below!
Award season is here and for you, that means more red carpet makeup tutorials to try! This is my first red carpet look for 2013, and I chose to do Jessica Alba because her look can be worn on an every day basis, with a pop of that lovely tangerine lipstick. If you read my blog on a regular basis, you know I’m already crazy for orange lips, so this was a no brainer for me.
I recreated Jessica’s look using the Urban Decay Naked Basics eye shadow palette, which I use everyday anyway. Everyone NEEDS to go and buy it! So handy-dandy…watch the video below to see why.

Hello again, winter beauties!
I came across this unique website called Borrowed Closet. Basically, you rent designer clothing, accessories and handbags for anything from weekend trips, girls’ night out or just for everyday wear. They carry a decent variety from top designers like BCBG, Alice + Olivia, Free People etc. This is the perfect site for the “Fashionista on a budget.”
While perusing what I wanted to rent, my mind, as usual, went right to makeup, and I started day dreaming about what makeup looks to do with each outfit. Scroll down to see what I came up with….
I’ve been obsessed with these black and nude mesh “illusion” dresses that literally give you an hourglass figure without a single workout or juice cleanse. This dress goes perfect with bold, black smoky eyes and nude lips, like Ms. Olsen’s below. The makeup is dramatic, however it incorporates the same colors as the dress, so it really works together.
This winter/spring sheer shirts and leather pants are everywhere. Keep the leather pants the main attraction by going with simple, glowy makeup like Megan Fox’s look below. The shimmer on the eyes, cheeks and lips keep the same theme as your shiny black leather pants while the natural eye shadows and gloss subdue the entire look.
Another trend that makes me smile these days are black and white stripes. They look good on everyone and pay homage to Beetlejuice, what’s not to love?! This striped jail break top goes great with bold red lips, like Camilla Belle’s below. It just makes such a COOL combination with the black and white. Notice that Camilla kept her eyes bare, just a touch of mascara and liner. She also kept her face makeup clean, no blush. This really draws people to her bright cherry red mouth. Okay, that’s it. I’m buying this top.
